Does insurance cover chiropractic?
Triple Crown Chiropractic · Published November 4, 2026 · 2 min read
Know your coverage before you book.
Some insurance plans cover chiropractic care, but coverage depends on the plan, provider network, medical necessity and service. Deductibles, copays, visit limits and authorization rules may apply. Verify benefits for the exact Walton or Covington office and proposed services; having insurance does not mean every chiropractic charge is covered.
Let’s look at what mattersThe questions to ask before your first visit
Ask your insurer whether the named clinician and office are in network, whether a referral or prior authorization is required and whether there are annual visit limits. Ask which services are covered separately from an adjustment.
Then ask the office for an estimate based on the planned evaluation. Benefit verification is helpful but is not a guarantee of claim payment. Keep any reference number from your insurer’s call.
Medicare has specific limits
Original Medicare Part B covers certain spinal manipulation to correct a subluxation under its rules. Medicare’s coverage page states that other services or tests ordered by a chiropractor, including X-rays and massage, are not covered under that chiropractic benefit. After the Part B deductible, the patient generally pays 20% of the Medicare-approved amount.
Medicare Advantage, commercial and Medicaid plans can have different networks and requirements. Do not apply one plan’s rules to another or assume maintenance visits are covered. Ask the plan about your exact situation.
What this means in Walton and Covington
A Northern Kentucky resident with an employer plan based in Cincinnati may still face network restrictions at a Kentucky office. Give the insurer Dr. Erik Simms’s name and the address of the Walton or Covington location you intend to visit. The two-office choice should fit both your schedule and verified benefits—not an assumption about cross-river coverage.
